1978

Creation of LABGROS by Prof. Dr. Moacir Cardoso Elias. First research on sorghum postharvest, in agreement with Embrapa Terras Baixas.

1983

First work done in rice parboiling industry.

Creation of the Academic Master in Agroindustrial Science and Technology, by the team of professors of the Department of Agroindustrial Science and Technology.

1985

Beginning of the activities of the Academic Master's degree in Food Science and Technology, with activities in the Post Harvest and Grain Industrialization research line, with students working directly in Labgrãos.

1987

First master's defense of a student who developed research in Labgrãos. The student was Cesar Valmor Rombaldi, who is now Professor of the Department of Agroindustrial Science and Technology of FAEM-UFPel.

1991

Prof. Admission Dr. Alvaro Renato Guerra Dias at DCTA-FAEM-UFPel, reinforcing the teaching staff of Labgrãos.

1995

Partnership with the Brazilian Association of Parboiled Rice Industry (ABIAP), starting work to implement the quality seal of parboiled rice.

2003

Creation of the South Brazilian Rice Quality Symposium (SSBQA), in conjunction with ABRAPÓS.

2004

Labgrãos receives the award “The future of the earth”, from Jornal do Comércio, at Expointer.

Presentation of the first thesis of PPGCTA - UFPel with studies performed in Labgrãos. The thesis was presented by Marcia Arocha Gularte, who is currently Professor at the Center for Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Food Sciences at UFPel, and guides graduate students who work at Labgrãos.

Second Edition of SSBQA, Pelotas.

2007

Standardization of the technical requirements of the National System of Certification of Storage Units, with effective participation of Labgrãos team in the preparation of the draft law and technical requirements.

1st Training Course for Technical Auditors of the National System of Certification of Storage Units. Today there are more than 15 Editions made by Labgrãos.

2008

3rd edition of SSBQA, in Camaquã.

2010

4th edition of SSBQA, in Pelotas.

2011

Prof. Admission Dr. Maurício de Oliveira as a teacher and researcher at Labgrãos.

The Prof. Dr. Moacir Cardoso Elias, General Coordinator of Labgrãos, receives the “Man of Rice” distinction, during the 21st Official Opening of the Rice Harvest, in Camaquã, RS, Brazil.

Changes the logo of Labgrãos and the first site is published.

The Rice Quality Symposium ceases to be South Brazilian and becomes Brazilian. The 5th Edition of the now called Brazilian Rice Quality Symposium (SBQA) took place at the “Eliseu Maciel” College of Agronomy and was attended by speakers from Brazil and abroad. In all, 513 people participated, with representatives from Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and the United States.

Prof. Admission Dr. Elessandra da Rosa Zavareze DCTA-FAEM-UFPel, joining the teaching staff of Labgrãos.

International partnership with Prof. PhD Loong-Tak Lim, University of Guelph, Canada. At the time, then Doctoral student Vânia Zanella Pinto held a PhD sandwich at Guelph. Since then, 3 other students working at Labgrãos have already performed doctoral exchanges at the University of Guelph, under the supervision of Professor. Lim.

Formal partnership with PhD researcher Jose de J. Berrios of the Processed Foods Unit of the US Department of Agriculture's West Regional Research Center, located in Albany, California. The term of cooperation was signed by researcher Jose de J. Berrios (WRRC-USDA), Professors Fabio Clasen Chaves (from DCTA-FAEM-UFPel) and Elessandra da Rosa Zavareze (Labgrãos-DCTA-FAEM-UFPel) and then PhD Nathan Levien Vanier (Labgrants).

Formal partnership with PhD Professors Joseph Pesek and Maria Matyska of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at San Jose StateUniversity, located in san Jose, California, United States. The formalization occurred through the approval of a research project entitled “Improvements in the parboiling process through the use of browning inhibitors and nutritional enrichment agents in rice” in the Special Visiting Researcher Announcement of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Moacir Cardoso Elias.

Formalization of partnership with Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay, by Professors Moacir Cardoso Elias, William Peres and Jander Luis Fernandes Monks.

Admission of Profa. Dr. Giniani Carla Dors at DCTA-FAEM-UFPel, composing the Labgrãos teaching team.

2016

The 6th SBQA is held in Pelotas at FAEM-UFPel. 446 people attended, who attended more than 20 lectures over the 3 days of the event. Speakers included researchers from Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia.

Launch of the new Labgrãos logo, the youtube channel and the new website, with a multimedia platform and new services offered to the grain production chains.

The 5th Post Harvest, Industrialization, Quality and Rice Consumption Seminar is held during EXPOARROZ, in Pelotas, with the promotion of Labgrãos.

Research Partnership with Professors Terry Siebenmorgen and Ya-Jane Wang (photo) from the University of Arkansas Department of Food Science during the Rice Processing Program Industry Alliance Meeting, coordinated by Professor Terry Siebenmorgen.

Year in which Labgrãos completes its 40th anniversary. Workshops are held in celebration. They are: Rice Industrialization and Quality Workshop (FAEM-UFPel Auditorium, on 05/18/2018), Wheat Industrialization and Quality Workshop (UFPel Rectory Auditorium, on 09/28/2018), Post-Harvest Workshop, Industrialization and Quality of Grains (Rural Association of Pelotas, on 12/12/2018) and the Workshop Storage with Precision (Association of Agricultural Engineers of Pelotas, on 10/12/2018).

Presentation of more than 30 papers at the VII Brazilian Post-Harvest Conference. Prof. Moacir Elias was one of the speakers at the most important event in Brazil on grain post-harvest.

Participation in the 3MT project during the Integrated Week of UFPel. It was the first time that the university presented theses in 3 minutes, following models from other universities. PhD student Jaqueline Pozzada dos Santos, who conducts her research at Labgrãos, was the representative of the PPGCTA.

Professor Márcia Gularte and the then graduate students Bianca Ávila, Aline Pereira and Estefânia Dierings launch the book "Arroz e Feijão: Practical Guide for Sensory Analysis in Grains" during Expoarroz, in Pelotas.
